Ken sort of challenged me to write a shorter poem the other night, and here's what came as I watched the process of a girl sitting in front of me at Anodyne Coffee Shop. Does anybody relate to this?
My (poetry) class starts tomorrow!
(Notice Aurelia's little "pony" tails. She actually calls the clips pony tails.)
PONY TAIL UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Elbows up and akimbo, Fingers brush:
Left Brush, right brush, Left, right again,
Gathering sheaves of auburn hair Inward, together.
Encircle with left hand,
Band with right hand:
Wrap, twist, wrap twist, wrap, twist, wrap, release,
split and tighten with outward tug,
Done: ten seconds, faster than a cowboy can rope a calf:
Hair contained, girl ready for business.
