Today, since I've become an unwilling host to a cold and very sore throat, we had to cancel Rellie day, but Sarah and the kids came over for supper with Grampa and me so that we could have a little time together. Rellie teased me with PART of her new DVD, "Tangled". It's so princess! It's good to raise my awareness of the expectations for our young girls and women. It's all so subtle.
If you've ever read "A Room of One's Own" by Virginia Woolf, you might know what I mean.
After Ken's delicious beef stew and flakey biscuits, Rellie requested some play upstairs which has the tradition now of starting with a rousing game of red light - green light played on the carpeted steps. Rellie talked about going bump, bump, bump on her bottom down the stairs and that reminded me of Sarah and Ryan playing on the stairs and coming down to sit at the bottom behind the closed door after bed time. I think it's quite a privilege to help raise one's grand children in the same house where you raised your own kids and be able to tell the stories to them.
(In case you wonder, the top picture is little Sarah enjoying the stairs in her first home on Cedar Avenue.)
