Born on this day, Felix Drake DeFor

A healthy wide-eyed (except when he isn't) dark-haired delight (pictured in Aunt Carrie's arms). Born at 2:29 a m, and Weighing in at 8 lbs, 6 ozs, and 20" long, he snuggled right up to Sarah who could hardly stand to have him out of her arms. But she was very disciplined after a few hours to let his other people hold him. It looked like Peder was exhausted, but pumped up and even his exhaustion yielded to some delightful smiles as he watched his new son begin life.
Sarah's labor was short (3 hours) and therefore kinda scary for her in the beginning because the hospital emergency room security and staff seemed opposed to sending her to the birth center. (What did they think she was there for in the middle of the night?!) I arrived a little later to see a calm and focused mother who could smile in between contractions and warning me that I was just in time for the final stage of birthing. It feels like such an honor to be present. I have no words for it.

WELCOME TO THE WORLD, FELIX.

This was Sarah the night before Felix was born. She was so ready for this birth and at the same time patient with waiting having been two weeks overdue with the amazing Aurelia. To keep from getting impatient, she allowed herself to take advantage of her resources, taking breaks from Relia when people offered to keep her, getting a pedicure the week before (and taking me along) (It was my first pedicure!). Anyway, it was an amazingly elegant and successful? birth. I have a happy, confident daughter-momma!
