Kitchen progress

 We've been having a hard time with the way things have developed with our kitchen, so we decided to have a heart to heart talk with our contractor.  Not easy, but it was well worth it.  Here's a picture of the way our (now dismissed) carpenter turned the corner between the kitchen and the dining room.  It didn't seem to match the style of the house at all to us and you can see that there are rough edges in several places.  So, the new carpenter did his best to keep it like the style of the dining room and finished it much better.   It looks simpler, but actually was much more complicated to create and execute.

This last picture is just a picture of the shower in our motel room - AmericInn @ Grand Marais - that we thought would be nice in our bathroom at home: We liked the movable shower head, the tile and the glass doors (although, I'm not sure I'd like to be cleaning glass doors all the time).  I probably should put this on "Pinterest" instead of here, but I don't know how to use it.


As for the kitchen, they ended up putting in an underlayment because we were concerned about the lack of it and the "soft" (as in not sturdy enough) feel of the floor after they put in the laminate flooring.  That meant that this week they have already taken out the lower cabinets and the flooring, put in the underlayment, put the flooring back on and re-installed the cabinets as well as redoing the base boards and the window framing.  We're much happier with the results of this and so, much happier with our new carpenter.  He seems much more suited to doing finish carpentry and communicates with us more readily.
Next week, the counter tops are due to be installed on Monday and the appliances are being delivered on Tuesday.  This feels like we're on the home stretch and will be using our new kitchen soon!  Although after so-o-o long (started in early March), it still feels like it might not ever really happen.
